Notebook computers are toolkits for thinkers. They enable students to push the boundaries of their knowledge and learning. The Collegiate Notebook Program begins in Year 5 and student use of notebooks is embedded in the curriculum in the Middle andNotebooks are compulsory for all Middle School students (Year 5 to Year 8) and in Years 9 and 10. Collegiate provides special pricing and specifications for the approved model for 2010.
In Years 11 and 12 a student may use her own notebook at school but it is preferred that it is the approved model. The School is unable to provide servicing other than password and connection assistance for non-approved notebooks. All notebooks connected to the school’s network are required to have the school’s virus protection software loaded. Costs will apply in the case of non-approved notebooks.Collegiate uses Fortigate web management tools to control the School’s Internet access. It incorporates filtering of undesirable websites, management of user download quotas and reporting capability. We are enthusiastic supporters of the helpful government Internet advisory service, Netalert, and encourage families to safeguard their children’s Internet access at home, just as we do at school.
Each student from Year 5 has her own network account and webmail. She also has access to her online courses and personal ePortfolio area, where she can store and display her work, through our Intranet Portal.
A comprehensive fibre optic, copper and wireless network connects the three Collegiate campuses, linking students, teachers and classes with internal and global online curriculum resources and databases. In addition to networked classrooms and offices, Collegiate has a number of computer studios used by all year groups for general class work, digital movie-making, multimedia, graphic design and music composition. Many classrooms have interactive whiteboards.
